Aishwarya Rai made news when she picked up shades worth 10 Lakh rupees, Asin picked up shoes worth 2 lakhs and now Akshay Kumar has raised a lot of eyebrows when he decided to wear an Italian designer suit worth Rs. 5 lakh for his forthcoming film Kambakht Ishq.

The movie produced by Sajid Nadiadwala has been already declared one of the biggest budget films. It stars Hollywood biggies like Sylvester Stallone, Brandon Routh Brandon Routh, and Carmen Electra along with apne desi Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor.

A source from the film’s crew reported, “Akshay was shooting for his introductory scene in the film. Shabina had sent nearly a dozen suits, each priced at approximately Rs 1.5 lakh. But Akshay didn’t like any suit. There was chaos with everybody wondering how to resolve the problem since Akshay was supposed to shoot for the particular scene in a few hours.”

That’s when Akshay and Sabir decided to go shopping. “The scene also has Kareena Kapoor. Kambakkht Ishq also stars a few prominent Hollywood actors. Akshay obviously wanted to look suave so he chose a suit, which was much more expensive than what Sajid had imagined. But Sajid is a magnanimous producer. He and Akshay are quite close. In fact, they went to the same school (Don Bosco, Matunga) where Akshay was one year junior to Sajid,” said our source.

A source close to Sajid, confirmed the story and said, “Yes. This did happen. Akshay didn’t wear any of the suits sent by Shabina. But that’s okay. Such things do happen during film shoots. Akshay chose a superb black suit with a hint of blue. It’s a unique piece.”

priyanka chopra
Acting career

Chopra made her debut in the 2002 Tamil film Thamizhan playing the role of Priya, the love interest of the protaginist in the film played by Vijay. The film was praised for its wit, although the depth of Chopra's character was seen as lacking.[9] Chopra also sang playback in the film, singing "Ullathai Killadhe" along with Vijay.

In 2003, she appeared in her first Bollywood film, opposite Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta in the Anil Sharma film The Hero: Love Story of a Spy. She played a supporting role as a doctor named Shaheen in a film The New York Times described as "ripping its text from the seething border tensions between India and Pakistan, spicing its conflict with hot-tempered religious zealots bent on nuclear havoc".[10] Despite being one of the highest grossing films of that year, the overall film was not well received by critics,[11] Chopra was awarded mostly good reviews for her debut Hindi performance.[12] Later that year she appeared in Raj Kanwar's Andaaz, playing the character of Jiya who falls in love with Raj Malhotra, played by Akshay Kumar. The film was a considerable box office success,[11] earning her a Filmfare Best Female Debut Award and a nomination for Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award. Rediff.com said of her role, "Priyanka clicks with the audience thanks to her skimpy outfits".[13]
Her next few films released in 2004 like Plan, Kismat and Asambhav performed poorly at the box office.[14] Later that year she appeared in David Dhawan's romantic comedy Mujhse Shaadi Karogi playing the role of a young fashion designer Rani along with Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar, the film turned out to be the third highest grossing film of that year.[15] She next starred in Aitraaz. It was her first negative role. Her performance won critical acclaim[16] and earned a Filmfare Best Villain Award. She also received a second nomination for Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award for the role. Film critic, Subhash K Jha, noted: "A star is born! As the predatory social-climbing seductress who can go to any length to satiate her lust for life, Priyanka Chopra rocks the scene like never before. The film is undoubtedly a triumph for Priyanka Chopra. With half a smile, a twitch of her lip and a movement of her eyebrow she seems to slip into her man-eater's role with captivating ease".[17] In the same year, she participated in a world tour titled Temptations 2004 with other Bollywood actors, including Shahrukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Rani Mukerji, Preity Zinta and Arjun Rampal. In 2005, she starred in six films. Her four films, Blackmail, Karam, Yakeen and Barsaat failed to do well.[14] But her other two releases, Waqt: The Race Against Time and Bluffmaster did decent business at the box office.[18][14] In 2006, Chopra starred in two of the most successful films of the year - Krrish and Don - The Chase Begins Again.[19] Then in 2007 she starred in Nikhil Advani's ensemble piece, Salaam-e-Ishq: A Tribute To Love. The movie failed to do well at the box office.[20] Chopra's next release; the much delayed, Big Brother also underperformed. In 2008, Chopra featured in six films. Her first four films, Love Story 2050, God Tussi Great Ho, Chamku and Drona, failed to do well.[21] Chopra's fifth release of the year, Madhur Bhandarkar's Fashion was a critical success. The film revolved around the fashion world and Chopra's role was that of an ambitious model. Her performance in the film was appreciated and earned her several awards for Best Actress including the National Film Award for Best Actress and also the Filmfare Best Actress Award.[22] Film critic, Subhash K Jha said of her performance, "Her transformation from the bubbly Chandigarh girl to the super-ambitious supermodel, who dumps her boyfriend and conscience to pursue her dreams, is achieved with a gentle subtlety and bridled passion. This is Priyanka’s coming-of-age film. She looks like a zillion bucks. And acts like a woman who connects with the darkest, most desperate human emotions without wallowing in them."[23] Chopra's final release of the year was Tarun Mansukhani's romantic comedy Dostana. The film was a moderate financial success.[21][24] Her performance was praised by the critics, with Rajeev Masand stating: "Priyanka Chopra, is at complete ease, slipping effortlessly into the role of the hottie-with-a-heart-of-gold; she looks smashing in this film, better than she's ever looked before."[25]In 2009, she appeared in Vishal Bhardwaj's Kaminey alongside Shahid Kapoor, playing the role of a feisty marathi girl

named Sweety. Her performance in the film was described by critic Taran Adarsh: "Priyanka is first-rate. She's so much in sync with her character. Also, she gets the Maharashtrian accent perfect".[26]

She subsequently appeared in Ashutosh Gowariker's What's Your Raashee?, a film in which Chopra became the first actress in the world to portray 12 distinct characters on screen.[27] She is being considered for inclusion in an upcoming edition of Guinness World Records for this feat.[28] The film itself, however, was a financial and critical failure.[29][30] But, Chopra's performance in the film was highly appreciated by the critics, film critic Taran Adarsh said: "What's Your Raashee? belongs to Priyanka Chopra. No two opinions on that. Words would fail to do justice to the remarkable portrayal of twelve different characters by this actor. This is her finest work to date."[31]

In 2010, Chopra appeared in Jugal Hansraj's Pyaar Impossible where she portrayed the role of a college beauty who eventually falls in love with a geek. The film was a financial and critical failure. Her next release, Siddharth Anand's Anjaana Anjaani alongside Ranbir Kapoor, got a good initial response at the box office, but was not well received by the critics. She was also appointed as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in 2010.[32]

Chopra has completed working on Vishal Bhardwaj's Saat Khoon Maaf, in which she plays the role of an Anglo-Indian woman with seven husbands. She has recently completed the first schedule of Farhan Akhtar's Don 2 - The Chase Continues alongside Shahrukh Khan in Berlin. And she has also been finalized for Anurag Basu's Barfee alongside Ranbir Kapoor, in which she reportedly plays the role of a mentally challenged girl.

Jab We Met and other works (2007–present)

Kapoor returned to film as the female protagonist Geet Dhillon, a vivacious Sikh girl with a strong zest for life, in the Imtiaz Ali directed romantic comedy Jab We Met (2007). Featured opposite Shahid Kapoor, the film relates the story of two people with contrasting personalities who meet on a train and eventually fall in love. The film was received favourably by critics and became one of the year's most successful films, with a domestic box office of Indian rupee303 million (US$ 6.88 million).[57] She won several awards for her performance, including the Filmfare Award for Best Actress and her second Star Screen Award for Best Actress.[4] Rajeev Masand from CNN-IBN noted, "Uninhibited and spontaneous, Kareena Kapoor is the soul of this picture, its biggest strength, as she brings alive her character with not just those smart lines, but with the kind of candor actors seldom invest in their work."[58] While shooting for Jab We Met, Kapoor and Shahid ended their three-year relationship.[59] Asked in Mumbai Mirror about their well-publicized break-up, she stated that "I hold him in utmost regard, and I hope one day we could be good friends. He is a great guy."[21] During this period, speculation began to surface that she was dating actor Saif Ali Khan, her co-star in the film Tashan (2008).[59] On October 18, 2007, during Manish Malhotra's grand finale show at the Lakme Fashion Week, Khan confirmed their relationship to the media.[59]

In 2008, she co-starred alongside Akshay Kumar, Saif Ali Khan and Anil Kapoor in Vijay Krishna Acharya's action-thriller Tashan. Though a poll conducted by Bollywood Hungama named it as the most anticipated release of the year,[60] the film eventually became a commercial and critical failure.[61][62] She next provided her voice for the character of Laila, the love interest of a street dog named Romeo, in the Yash Raj Films and Walt Disney Pictures animated film Roadside Romeo. It was the second Bollywood film to receive a North American release by a Hollywood studio.[63] In preparation for the role, Kapoor viewed several Hollywood animated films to analyse how actors delivered their dialogues.[64] Kapoor then appeared in Rohit Shetty's comedy Golmaal Returns, the sequel to the 2006 film Golmaal. A part of an ensemble cast that included Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi and Tusshar Kapoor, Kapoor played a distrustful wife who believed her husband to be unfaithful. The film received ambivalent reception from critics and Kapoor herself received mixed reviews. The Indian Express believed the screenplay was unoriginal, concluding, "There is nothing particularly new about a suspicious wife keeping tabs on her husband, and there is nothing particularly new in the way Kareena plays it."[65] Golmaal Returns was nonetheless a major financial success, with revenues of Indian rupee793 million (US$ 18 million) internationally.[32]

The following year, Kapoor was cast as Simrita Rai opposite Akshay Kumar in Sabbir Khan's battle of the sexes comedy Kambakkht Ishq. Set in Los Angeles, California, it became the first Indian film in history to be shot within Universal Studios Hollywood, California, and featured several cameo appearances from Hollywood actors.[66] The film earned over Indian rupee840 million (US$ 19.07 million) worldwide, but was a critical failure.[32] The Times of India described her performance as "a complete let-down" and further stated that "despite her haute-coutured look, her micro minis, her pencil heels, she comes across as a completely unconvincing supermodel cum surgeon."[67] She next starred in Prem Soni's directorial debut, Main Aurr Mrs Khanna. Kapoor featured as the protagonist, Raina Khanna, a woman who becomes the sole breadwinner of the family, and therefore struggles with her marriage. The film was critically and financially unsuccessful,[68] with the Daily News and Analysis concluding that "Kapoor shows moments of the talent we associate with her, but then slumps with a silly drunken scene or by just smiling beatifically through emotional moments."[69]

Following Main Aurr Mrs Khanna, Kapoor's next release was Kurbaan, a dramatic thriller set against the backdrop of global terrorism.[70] It was directed by Rensil D'Silva and written by Karan Johar, co-starring Saif Ali Khan, Vivek Oberoi, Om Puri and Kirron Kher. Kapoor played the role of Avantika Ahuja, a woman who is confined to house arrest after finding out that her husband is a terrorist. She described the film as "an emotionally draining experience", which did not let her disconnect from her character during shooting.[70] Upon release, the film was critically embraced and Kapoor received her fourth Filmfare Best Actress nomination.[4] According to Subhash K Jha, "Kurbaan belongs to Kareena Kapoor. In her most consistently-pitched performance to date she pulls out all stops to play a betrayed wife with splendid sensitivity. Kareena accommodates her radiant beauty into an utterly credible character and performance. At her best, Kareena is incomparable. She proves it in Kurbaan."[71]

Her final release of 2009 was Rajkumar Hirani's drama 3 Idiots, a film loosely based on the novel Five Point Someone by Chetan Bhagat.[72] Co-starring alongside Aamir Khan, R. Madhavan and Sharman Joshi, Kapoor starred as Pia, an independent-minded medical student and Khan's love interest. On acting alongside Khan, Kapoor revealed that it was "a dream come true" and further stated that her journey as an actress was "finally complete".[73] The feature received much critical devotion and emerged as the highest-grossing Bollywood film of all time, grossing Indian rupee2,026 million (US$ 45.99 million) at the Indian box office.[12] It also did well internationally and earned over Indian rupee690 million (US$ 15.66 million), the second biggest Bollywood success of all time in the overseas market.[7][74] Rediff.com opined that Kapoor dazzled with her "brief role, and even though a lot of her spunk seems significantly Jab We Met in tone, she lights up the screen when she is around."[75] During the 55th Filmfare Awards, Kapoor received another Best Actress nomination for her role.[4]

In 2010, she appeared in the romantic comedy Milenge Milenge, a production that had been delayed since 2005.[76] The feature garnered negative reviews and poor box office returns. Kapoor's role was small and was not well-received.[76] She next featured alongside Kajol and Arjun Rampal in We Are Family, the Hindi adaptation of the 1998 Hollywood release Stepmom.[77] Prior on commencing work for the project, Kapoor explained that she did not want to watch Stepmom in an attempt to "interpret the role...in my own style".[77] Reaction to the film was mostly lukewarm, but Kapoor's performance drew positive reviews; critic Taran Adarsh remarked that "[...] casting Kareena as the stepmom is just right, since she is the only actor who can stand up to Kajol in high-voltage scenes and that is because Kareena is a powerful actor herself."[78] At the same time, The New York Times noted: "Kapoor [...] manages to make something of a role that often beggars belief."[79] She followed with the leading female role in Rohit Shetty's comedy Golmaal 3, the sequel to the 2008 release Golmaal Returns. A part of an ensemble cast that included most of the actors from the previous film, the project was met with mixed reactions from reviewers, though became the most successful entry in the Golmaal film series, earning more than Indian rupee1,000 million (US$ 22.7 million) domestically.[80] A review in MiD DAY described Kapoor's portrayal of the tomboy Daboo as "[the film's]...real hero...who takes the story forward."[81]

Kapoor is scheduled to appear in a leading role in Anubhav Sinha's science fiction Ra.One.[82] The film, which stars her alongside Shahrukh Khan and Arjun Rampal began filming in India in March 2010. She is also set to star opposite Saif Ali Khan in Sriram Raghavan's action-thriller Agent Vinod.[82]

Career
Modeling

While in college, Padukone pursued a career in modeling.[7] She was spotted in a ramp competition in NLS, Bangalore.[citation needed] Over the years, she has modeled for such Indian brand names as Liril, Dabur Lal powder, Close-Up toothpaste and Limca, and has been "brand ambassador" for the Jewels of India retail jewelry show.[8] The cosmetics company Maybelline made her its international spokesperson.[9]

At the fifth annual Kingfisher Fashion Awards she was awarded the title "Model of the Year".[10] Shortly afterward, she was chosen as one of the models for the Kingfisher Swimsuit Calendar for 2006 and won two trophies at the Idea Zee Fashion Awards: "Female Model of the Year - (Commercial Assignments)" and "Fresh Face of the Year".[11][12] Padukone was also chosen as the brand ambassador of Kingfisher Airlines and later Levi Strauss and Tissot SA.[13] In addition, she appeared in the music video for Himesh Reshammiya's song Naam Hai Tera.
Acting

In 2006, Padukone made her cinematic debut in the Kannada film Aishwarya opposite actor Upendra. She later made a successful Bollywood debut in 2007 with Farah Khan's blockbuster Om Shanti Om opposite Shahrukh Khan.[14][15] Her performance was well received, earning the actress a Filmfare Best Female Debut Award as well as her first Filmfare Best Actress nomination. Taran Adarsh from indiaFM noted, "Deepika has all it takes to be a top star — the personality, the looks and yes, she's supremely talented too. Standing in the same frame as SRK and getting it right is no small achievement. She comes as a whiff of fresh air!"[16] Padukone was then seen in Siddharth Anand's romantic comedy Bachna Ae Haseeno opposite Ranbir Kapoor and alongside Bipasha Basu and Minissha Lamba. The film, which released on 15 August 2008, performed reasonably well at the box office. Her next film Chandni Chowk To China, released on 16 January 2009, and was a critical and commercial disaster. Padukone's fourth release Love Aaj Kal, released on 31 July 2009 and proved to be one of the biggest hits of 2009.[17] Her first release in 2010 was Excel Entertainment’s Karthik Calling Karthik opposite Farhan Akhtar.

Padukone was last seen in Sajid Khan’s Housefull alongside Akshay Kumar. The movie was a commercial hit. Her future projects include Yash Raj Films' Lafangey Parindey, Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey directed by Ashutosh Gowarikar, and Kunal Kohli’s Break Ke Baad co-starring Imran Khan.
Other work

In 2009, Deepika started writing weekly columns for HT City, the lifestyle supplement of Hindustan Times. These columns appear online on social network, Desimartini.[18]
Personal life

In March 2008, Padukone began dating Ranbir Kapoor, her co-star from the film Bachna Ae Haseeno (2008).[19] The couple broke up in November 2009.[20]
